Director, Writer, Producer.
For more than fifteen years, Andrew Ferrett has created vibrant, award-winning documentaries that allow contemporary audiences to connect with stories of the past.
As the lead filmmaker at History Making Productions, Andrew directed, co-wrote, and co-produced dozens of projects, from feature-length documentaries to client-commissioned work. With the docuseries Philadelphia: The Great Experiment, Andrew and his collaborators set out to create an inclusive and bold original narrative that illuminated Philadelphia’s singular role in American history and society. Under Andrew’s direction, Philadelphia: The Great Experiment won more than a dozen Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, including wins for Best Writing and Best Documentary. The Philadelphia Inquirer hailed the series as “must viewing” and “exciting, invigorating, alive!” The series’ episodes, airing regionally on ABC, were the most watched programs on television in their time slot, reaching as many as 325,000 Philadelphia television viewers in a single broadcast. The series has attracted nearly three million views on its YouTube channel.
Andrew’s feature-length documentaries Before Hollywood and Sisters in Freedom won consecutive Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards for Best Documentary in 2018 and 2019. Before Hollywood, which explores the connected lives of early cinema pioneers, premiered at the Philadelphia Film Festival in 2017. The film made its television debut in conjunction with the 2018 Oscars telecast, then subsequently received multiple broadcasts on public television. Sisters In Freedom, co-directed with Wendy Cox, brought new attention to a multi-racial coalition of American women who fought to abolish slavery in the 19th century. Sisters In Freedom was widely screened in libraries and community centers across Philadelphia before premiering on PBS in 2020.
Andrew is a native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Kenyon College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies. Additional film credits include work with Insignia Films, Artifact Pictures, the League of Women Voters, Urban Engineers, Hidden City Philadelphia, and The Public Interest Law Center.
